Attention Weddington Families

The PTA is looking forward to a great school year.  We have a wonderful facility and a tremendous staff.  All we are missing is YOU!!

The PTA sponsors many of the programs that benefit our children.  We also purchase a lot of the equipment that is used in our classrooms including Smart Boards, Document Cameras and Laptop Computers.  To make all of this possible, we count on generous donations from our families and local businesses.  With the recent budget cuts, it is even more critical for us to get private financial support.  Furthermore, the PTA has decided to conduct a Capital Campaign for the 2010-11 school year.  This will ensure that 100% of the money stays at Weddington.  In order for this to be successful, we need 100% participation.

The PTA is looking for volunteers as well.  There are so many ways to get involved in the school.  We can definitely find a position that will work with your schedule and interests. Enclosed, you will find a description of the committees.  We will also be available at the Back to School Meet & Greet to answer any questions.

We all value the experience that our children have received at Weddington Elementary.  For us to continue to thrive, we must prioritize our son’s &/or daughter’s education.  They are young for such a short period of time.  Don’t miss out on the opportunity to make a difference in their lives!!  They are counting on YOU!

You will find an enclosed 2010-11 PTA information sheet.  Please fill this out and bring it to the Back to School Meet & Greet.  We will also accept forms/donations by sending them in to the school office addressed to the PTA.  Thanks in advance for your participation!!

Chnage for Change

The fifth annual “Change for Change” was a HUGE success.  This year Weddington students collected $5,099.43 over a two week period.  ALL the money collected was given to support two very important charities.  “Relay for Life”, which supports cancer research and “Kid’s First of the Carolinas” which is a local charity that supports children and families in need.

Our children were rewarded for their efforts with a “Celebration” on Friday February 12th.  All students were entered into a raffle for prizes.  The entire school also received popsicles during the Celebration drawings.  The classes who met their goal of $300 had their teacher’s name entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate.

The winning class in each grade also received a pizza lunch.  The following classes earned a pizza lunch:

EC/PK/K Ms. Williams $145.05
1st Grade Ms. Murray$281.47
2nd Grade Ms. Stoner $190.49
3rd Grade Ms. Holton $377.65
4th Grade Ms. Stephano$313.39
5th Grade Ms. Reed $194.12

Thank you to the “Change for Change” committee – Laura Shafer, Cheri Schill, Terri Snipes, Joanna Barman, Julie Briguglo, Leslie Gaylord, and Sheri Fremin for all your help.
